Nye Beach Market
Mo's Annex
La Maison Bakery/Cafe
Mo's Annex: I only worked at Mo's three nights a week most of the summer, but that was plenty. Most of the nights I worked it was very slow and I was walking around anxiously looking for things to do. One Monday night it was so slow I rearranged the whole wall display to make it look more appealing to the eye and in an effort to increase sales. One of the managers noticed that I had re-done everything, but she didn't say much to me about it. Oh well, I thought it was a long overdue and much needed change and it gave me something to keep me from losing my mind that Monday night! I enjoyed the people that I worked with at Mo's and if it hadn't have been for them (Merik, Marcy, Chelsea, Robin, Iday, etc.) I think I would have lost my marbles.
Nye Beach Market: I loved working at the market and I loved my boss! Judy, my boss, is one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met. She has a gentle touch and a sincere heart. She is an amazing chef. She ran the market more as a restaurant than a market. I expereinced quinoa salad for the first time in my life and I have develped a healthy additcion to it. Quinoa is a grain and it looks like little cream-colored oval beads when it is cooked. It is healthy and tasty, always a great combination. Judy would make it with pieces of orange, kidney beans, green onions, craisins, etc. On most of the days I would work (usually 4 days a week) she would have me make scones, cookies (white chocolate orange cookies), banana bread, homemade wheat or sourdough bread, sour cream coffee cake, or something of my own creation. One time I made my own white chocolate chip toffee cookies and they turned out deliciously well! I loved learning more about baking and being createive in the kitchen is a tasty outlet that I never knew was so fun! I really enjoy baking and I am not too shabby at it either... try at your own risk :)
La Maison Bakery/Cafe: I also enjoyed working at La Maison, which is french for "the house." It is a cute and fancy little french bakery and cafe. They sold all kinds of delicious little desserts, cakes, cupcakes, pasteries, cookies, cinnamon rolls, homemade english muffins, croissants, ciabotta rolls, raspberry and chocloate filled croissants, and they also served breakfast and lunch. I ate the best sausage I have ever tasted when Cliff, the main chef, made me a breakfast sandwich during one of my morning shifts. The breakfast sandwich was a combination of eggs, gruere cheese, and sausage sandwiched between two halves of a toasted english muffin and it was bliss! Everything just melted in my mouth.
I am surprised I didn't put on a million pounds this summer with all of the yummy treats and breads they fed me, but if I had I would never complain... this was by far the tastiest summer I have ever experienced in my existance :)
