Lake Powell

Last weekend (August 31-Sept. 2) my friend Megan and I traveled to Lake Powell in Southern Utah. Ever since I moved to Salt Lake in 2008 I have been hearing things about how large, awesome, and beautiful Lake Powell is....so I decided it was time to take the plunge and go explore it for myself!

I received an invite from a co-worker/friend of mine at work, Jason Lloyd, a few weeks previous; I know him best through crossfit, because he is one of our coaches at work and we have a lot of common interests, so we chat often at work. He is a very nice guy and he and his wife just had a little baby about 6 months ago. They invited me to come to Lake Powell and I thought this was an opportunity of a lifetime, because they had a houseboat, stand-up jet skis, a ski/wake boarding boat, tubes, and two kayaks....how can you say NO to that??!!!

Megan and I arrived Saturday afternoon after driving down in a car pool with Jason and his wife Becky and their little boy, and a bunch of Jason's family. On our way down to the lake, We got a flat tire on one of the trailers and Megan got a speeding ticket right outside of Spanish Fork - an eventful beginning to our trip! When we finally arrived at Lake Powell, We loaded the houseboat and set off to hook up to a buoy to camp on the lake for the night.

This is a picture of the houseboat we stayed on. Looks like a floating candy store to me!

The water temperature was amazing! We spent the next two days swimming, wake boarding, kayaking, learning how to ride a stand-up jet ski, eating, tubing, enjoying the sun! We even had a bonfire on the beach on Sunday night and roasted marshmallows and had Reese's peanut butter cup s'mores...amazing!

Going to Lake Powell with Megan and Jason's family was pretty much the best decision I've ever made! We did more in two days than I've ever done in such a short amount of time. It was a blast and I would do it again in a heart beat! I just love being outside and i love the water. conditions on the lake were perfect everyday. The water was 80 degrees - you didnt even have to talk yourself into getting in at 6:30 in the morning - it was like bath water! I would love to co-own a boat with family and/or friends. So much fun! Now I want to buy a kayak too! So many wonderful things to do in this world and so little time! :)

This was our camp spot Sunday night.
